Every treatment plan is prescribed according to the individual patient. Our veterinary team considers your pet’s diagnosis, species, size, coat, treatment area, tissue depth, overall health, and response to therapy before recommending a treatment protocol.
Laser therapy is not a cure-all, and it does not replace diagnostics, medication, surgery, rehabilitation, or other necessary care. It may, however, be a valuable part of a multimodal treatment plan designed to help your pet feel more comfortable, move more easily, and recover from selected injuries or procedures.
What is veterinary laser therapy?
Veterinary laser therapy, also called photobiomodulation or cold laser therapy, uses specific wavelengths of therapeutic light applied to targeted tissue. In appropriate dogs and cats, it may help manage pain and inflammation, improve comfort and mobility, and support the biological processes involved in tissue recovery.
Photobiomodulation uses non-ionizing light and is different from a surgical laser, which is used to cut or remove tissue. Its effects depend on factors such as wavelength, dose, treatment area, tissue depth, and how the energy is delivered.
How Does Veterinary Laser Therapy Work?
During laser therapy, specific wavelengths of light are delivered through the skin to a targeted area. This light interacts with light-sensitive structures within the tissue and may influence cellular energy production, inflammatory signaling, blood flow, and other biological processes involved in pain and recovery.
Laser therapy is dose-dependent. More power does not automatically mean a better treatment. The appropriate dose, treatment area, applicator, technique, movement speed, tissue depth, and patient characteristics all influence how much therapeutic light reaches the intended tissue.
This is why treatment should be based on a veterinary diagnosis and administered using a protocol selected for the individual patient, rather than applying a generic setting to every pet or every condition. Laser Therapy for Cats
Cats frequently hide pain, which can make arthritis and other painful conditions difficult to recognize. Subtle signs may include reduced jumping, less grooming, difficulty using the litter box, sleeping in different locations, irritability, or reduced interaction with family members.
